I recently checked out Hinterhof, a vegan German beer hall in Highland Park.
I love German/Austrian food and was excited to try the Hinterhof. I will never go vegan or vegetarian but I do eat it occasionally as I consider it a “cuisine” rather than lifestyle choice.
I was trying to decide between the bratwurst or the schnitzel. I went with the schnitzel because the server said as a meat eater, I might not like the texture of the brat. I’m glad she steered me to the schnitzel since I do love spaeztle and the entree came with an amazing red cabbage and mushroom sauce.
I also ordered a side of sauerkraut because I love pickled stuff. Gut health and all that!
I got the black lager for my first drink and ended with a radler. The beer selection is surprisingly small but perhaps thoughtfully put together. It suited our needs at the time.
I would like to go back to try the mashed potatoes and pretzel. They had run out of pretzels!
