I recently went to a pint night at Stout in Santa Monica to check out the beers from Einstok from Iceland. It is touted as Iceland’s number one craft beer brewery. I was able to try 5 different beers including the White Ale, Artic Berry Ale, Snorri’s Awakening Coffee Pale Ale, Toasted Porter and Doppelbock. Some beers I tried straight from the bottle or can and then again as a draft. There were subtle differences between the White Ale on draft compared to the White Ale from the bottle. I may have actually preferred it from the bottle.
One of my favorites ended up being the Doppelbock. Being more of a spirits drinker, I like that little kick.
I liked the private room off the main bar and its collection of beer tap handles. They had two Einstok beers on tap when I went a month or so ago including the aforementioned White Ale and also the Toasted Porter.
The intriguing seasonal brew, the Einstok Artic Berry, reminded me a bit of a South American flavor that I couldn’t quite pin point. It was a teeny bit sour which I liked. I can see it as being very refreshing on a hot day.
Einstok brought a limited amount of the Snorri’s Awakening Coffee Pale Ale to town and I was lucky enough to taste it. It possibly may have been my first coffee pale ale. I am more familiar with coffee stouts so this was pretty neat.
Besides Stout, Einstok is available all over Santa Monica including Aestus, Tar and Roses, Boa Steakhouse and Milo and Olive. Or if you want to buy it to enjoy it at home, get it at Whole Foods on Wilshire (in Santa Monica), Broadway Wine and Spirits, Duck Blind Liquor and more.
