Roman burger
Morels at the Grove celebrates National Hamburger Month every year bringing one or two special burgers on the menu. This year, they introduced 5 burgers that’s available for the next couple of weeks. After nibbling on all five, I can say my favorites were the Roman burger and French Open. All the burgers are served with French fries and the buns are from local bakery, Rockenwagner. The patties are certified Black Angus beef.
The Roman burger reminded me of a bit of delicious meatballs with spaghetti. The marinara sauce makes this burger along with the balsamic vinegar, basil and smoked mozzarella.

American burger
Morels has a burger on the regular menu that’s quite different from the 5 offered for National Hamburger Month. The burger with caramelized onions, Brie, tomato, arugula and spicy mayo is always available. With the Brie, it fits its French steakhouse them. It’s then interesting to see what they do with an “American” burger– why, top it with BBQ sauce! Along with iceberg lettuce, smoked cheddar cheese and gigantic onion rings. It’s quite impressive to look at.

Hawaiian burger
Naturally the Hawaiian burger would have grilled pineapple. In this case, the Teriyaki sauce is quite evocative as well. Mild Swiss cheese and onions finish this burger off. If you’re a fan of savory-sweet, this is the burger for you.

French Open
As mentioned, I really liked the French Open which is an open-faced burger on top of toast. The fried egg is the beguiling part of the sandwich (burger tartine!!).

Cinco de Mayo
The fifth offering is the Cinco de Mayo. Days have passed from what seems to be National Margarita Day** but in LA a burger with pico de gallo, chipotle mayo and avocado (especially the avocado) is not unwelcome.
To wash down all the burgers, Morels is offering craft beer on tap these days. My picks with be the Kinetic Brewery Fusion Porter, North Coast Brewing Shrimshaw Pilsner or Black Market Brewing Bavarian-style Hefeweizen. But all you hopheads might like the Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA.
