Recently Golden Road Brewing held the Better Weather Festival at their brewery. I gave away tickets and headed out to enjoy the day. Despite bad traffic and getting lost, I eventually found the cute complex of brightly colored buildings. I took note of the pub where the fare is much like their other ventures; Tony’s Darts Away and Mohawk Bend meaning the vegetarians will definitely be able to eat.
The fest was very well attended, mostly with groups of guys. It was SO easy to chat with people and I’m now suggesting single ladies brush up on their craft beer knowledge. Actually, you probably don’t need to know much before going because you’ll receive an education and plenty of opinions with your beer. I usually drink dark beers much to the horror of these beer nerds who were keeping it cool that day. With the sweltering heat, dark beers were usually avoided. Well, I still like my dark beers.
I was happy to wander around tasting my way through the dark beers. Cismontane’s Black Nocturn was my ultimate favorite. It’s a bourbon barrel aged imperial stout. I also liked Golden Road’s own B3 which is a bourbon barrel aged brown. Notice a pattern?
This year, I was nominated for best bar blogger by LA Weekly. Also nominated was the blog, Beers in Paradise. Guess who I found at the Fest? Yep!
I didn’t think I’d get over to the pub so I tried out a food truck, Crispy Waffle & Frite. I was pretty torn up about not ordering chicken and waffles but fries just sounded amazing right about then.
But as it turned out, I did go to the Pub.
I’m pretty sure I was the only person who wanted a salad at that point. Although the fare as mentioned is healthier than your average bar food, I was pretty much laughed at when I hesitantly mentioned salad. I ended up getting spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were lighter and the sauce on the pasta was a cross between tomato and pesto. Very interesting and still comforting.
Maybe I should plan a singles event around craft beer. Apparently that’s where the guys are at!
