There are some who would say Father’s Office has the best burger in Los Angeles. It’s definitely one of my favorite burgers. It has a colorful past where lines were drawn over the ketchup/ no ketchup issue. Father’s Office doesn’t have it– don’t bother asking for it. I personally don’t eat ketchup and it’s never bothered me. They know how to make burgers and this “fancy” burger spawned the gourmet burger fad where burgers were now over $10 and I found similar burgers all around the country.
I had actually intended to go to Lukshon but they were closed that night. It’s been a while since I’ve been to either the Santa Monica or Culver City Father’s Office location as they were always packed. Luckily it was a Monday and we found a couple of seats right away. I noted with some surprise they now serve “forgotten cocktails” like a Manhattan or a Last Word. I got a Last Word which had a little bit too much citrus but was still acceptable. I suppose I should have gotten a beer for my burger but I’m still a cocktail nerd at heart.
We started with the avocado toast with anchovy. It was delicious. I have always liked the small plates at Father’s Office.
For me the perfect burger is medium rare. I believe it was always served that way at FO but it seems they’re more lax about that now for they asked me how I wanted it cooked.
You can dip your fries in the aioli, avoiding the ketchup issue but they are seasoned well so I generally ate the fries without sauce.
We also got a side of mushrooms and again, they were great. Chef Sang Yoon does such a great job with fresh ingredients. Look for his daily specials. Father’s Office may be about the burgers and beer but there’s so much more.
